Womens Golf
There is a famous quote over a century ago by Lord Wellwood that goes
- 'If women choose to play at times when the male golfers
are feeding or resting, no one can object ... at other times ...they are in
the way'
I'm pleased to say that, today, this sort of thinking by male golfers
is very much in the minority.
Womens golf is now a big business and you see a lot of Lady PGA professionals
teaching the game. In fact a lot of women far prefer to go to a lady teacher.
There is no doubt that a woman approaches the game of
golf differently to a man. Most obviously the physical body differences that create the need for a slightly
different swing.
Women have less upper body strength so they must counteract that with both
good tempo and lower body movement.
Another area of difference is in the equipment used, most women golfers will
use golf clubs specifically designed for women.
The main difference being the weight, length and flex of the shaft.
Women also tend to use more fairway woods than men as these achieve greater distance and are easier to hit than the
long irons.
One great development of the past few years is the introduction of more
fashion onto the golf scene. Ladies golf clothing was somewhat limited 5-10 years ago.
For a lot women thinking of taking up the game of golf
it is quite daunting - there a lots of rules and regulations to learn. Nobody wants to go out onto the golf course
the first time and not know the ropes
The great news is that Katie Hoyt has written a book especially for women. It
is full of tips, tricks, techniques and secrets that will ensure you know exactly what you are doing out on the
course.
It is a must read for anybody thinking about taking up the game and even
seasoned golfers will benefit from it and see improvements in their game.
